La Colonie
Guest House
In an exceptional location at the gates of the village of Aubrac, La Colonie boasts countless windows on its facade — a good thirty or so! — which are all marks of a hotel past, which in turn testifies to a long tradition of accommodation on the plateaus of the Massif Central, at more than 1000 m altitude. Built on the route of an ancient Roman road, the via Aggripa, the village of Aubrac saw the foundation of a place of welcome for pilgrims of Santiago de Compostel as early as 1120, on the initiative of Adalard, pilgrim from Flanders. Là, parmi des pâtures interminables qui dominent la forêt de hêtres sur le flanc du plateau, de rares constructions constituent les jalons du passage des hommes, face à l’horizon nu sous le ciel sans autre limite que les nuages.
